Installing Red Hat LinuxRed Hat Linux can be installed from local media (hard disk or CD) or over the network (http or nfs). This site can help you with all of these approaches. You can download the data from here to put on a disk image. You can download the ISOs and burn your own CDs. You can download the floppy images or the first CD and make boot disks that you then point here to install via http or NFS (NFS installs allowed only on LSU campus).
Install via the NetworkWe support installing Red Hat Linux over the network via http and nfs. The first thing you will need is a way to boot your system and initiate the network install. We recommend that you download the first CD (shrike-i386-disc1.iso for Red Hat 9), burn it to CD, and then boot from this CD to do the install. This CD will also serve as an emergency boot disk for recovery. When installing Red Hat Linux over the network, you will need to know the following information:
Refer to the Installation Guides for more details about installing.
Install From CDTo do a local install from CD, you will need to download the CD ISOs (three for Red Hat 9) and burn them to physical CDs. You will then boot from the first CD and follow the instructions in the Installation Guides. The CD images are the i386 disks (for 9) that can be found in the iso directory:
